Location

Grau d'Agde is on the Mediterranean coast about 800 metres south of the old town of Agde . It has all the amenities, and the beaches are child-friendly and clean. There is a lovely walk along the river Herault from Grau to Agde town with peaceful views and small restaurants on the way- it makes a wonderful stroll.

Agde is where the River Hérault and the Canal du Midi meet the Mediterranean. It is of Greek origin with a maritime history, and is claimed to be the second-oldest town in France!   It used to be called 'Good Fortune' (from the Greek 'Agathé Tyché') and is situated on the banks of the Hérault river and at the foot of Mont Saint-Loup. The old town is worth exploring and has an old world charm, with meandering streets and original architecture. On the Canal du Midi, it has the only round lock which can cope with three water levels.

A short distance from the cottage to the east will take you to the golf course at Cap d'Agde, where there is an international 18 hole course, and a compact 9 hole course. A little further takes you into Cap d'Agde itself which surrounds the marina.

Montpellier, Béziers, Sete, Pezenas and the Haute Languedoc National Park are all within about half an hour by road. There is also an excellent train service from Agde.
